Hungarian (magyar) is the official language of Hungary and the largest Uralic language by native speakers, spoken by about 12 million people in Hungary and neighboring parts of Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine. It belongs to the Ugric branch of the Uralic family, unrelated to the Indo-European languages that surround it, and is written in a Latin alphabet with digraphs and diacritics of its own.
